When you think of WrestleMania, chances are you, you also think of Shawn Michaels (Michael Hickenbottom). On-screen, where professional wrestlers become larger than life characters, Michaels may refer to himself as 'Mr. WrestleMania', but the reality is that Michaels' claims are valid and justified.
And putting on a show-stealing performance is exactly what is expected on Sunday night in Orlando, Florida. Since then, he has stolen the show at a number of WrestleMania shows, including WrestleMania 19 (vs. Chris Jericho), WrestleMania 21 (vs. Kurt Angle) and just last year where he and the-then WWE champion John Cena had a memorable contest at WresleMania 23. But stealing the show time after time comes with it's disadvantages, and Michaels knows that wrestling fans expect that type of performance every time 'HBK' steps into the ring.
"The thing is, when you say something and then do it, it becomes part of you and people always expect it," Michaels said. "After a while, it becomes hard. It becomes your challenge. Can you meet that challenge? Can you rise to the occasion? That's all I ever try to do." |

At WrestleMania 24, Michaels will square off against Ric Flair in what may be the final match of The Nature Boy's incredible 35-year career.
And while the spectacle that is the WWE may draw frowns and groans from those who don't fully understand the nature of the business, for Michaels, it doesn't get much bigger than facing Flair on such a grand scale.
"He made everything about the job look great, from being in the ring, partying -- it looked like the greatest job in the world," Michaels said. "If you weren't thrilled about watching him do what he did, you were crazy."![]()
While their match isn't being billed as the main event of WrestleMania 24 (in fact in terms of prestige and promotion it's probably fourth on the card), in the eyes of a number of fans it is the true main event of the night.
And in the eyes of other wrestlers, it is also viewed as the true main event.
"I can't wait to see the match between Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair that could possibly be Flair's last match," said Smackdown star Chuck Palumbo, who will be part of the 24-man battle royal "dark match" that takes place prior to the pay-per-view going live. "I don't want to see that, but I'm a huge fan of Shawn Michaels. That's the guy I watched when I was breaking in."
It's sure to be an emotional match for them, as well as fans who have admired Flair over the years. And that, of course, includes Michaels.
"What he's done for people in this industry is amazing," Michaels said. "I just want to do justice for my friend and what he deserves."
World Wrestling Entertainment's WrestleMania 24 pay-per-view takes place this Sunday night and for those of you in the United Kingdom, it airs live on Sky Box Office.
But if you can't or won't shell out the money to order the PPV live, whether you're in the UK, Europe, the United States or anywhere else, fear not, as OddsPreview.com will have live match-by-match coverage of WWE's biggest event of the year starting at 11pm GMT with backstage news from Orlando as well as live coverage of the pre-PPV battle royal ahead of the show itself.
