Wednesday's racing at Ayr abandoned @ Wednesday May 21

Wednesday's meeting at Ayr has been abandoned because of unsafe ground.

Officials at the track had delayed their opening race, due off at 2pm, after jockeys complained about an area of soft ground turning into the straight, around three furlongs down the track.

Racing had to be abandoned following the check, shortly after the first race was due off.

Clerk of the course Katherine Self said: "We had to have a look and abandoned due to concerns over an area of ground three and a half furlongs from home.

"Jockeys came and had a look as we had to hold a formal inspection."
