Frank Warren has suggested that there could be a possibility of Amir Khan fighting Nate Campbell in the future, though the American seems set to meet Joan Guzman first. Campbell won the WBA/IBF/WBO lightweight titles from Juan Diaz in March and is thought to be about to make his first defence against the former WBO super featherweight champion Guzman before the end of the year after mandatory challenger Joel Casamayor opted to fight against Juan Manuel Marquez instead. Guzman and Campbell have engaged in a prolonged war of words making their meeting even more highly anticipated. This could pave the way for Amir Khan meeting the winner in early 2009 and Warren, who met Campbell while being inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame last weekend, said Campbell was keen to make the fight happen. "We spoke and he said we would like to make the fight," Warren said. "Let's take it one fight at a time, and when the Gomez fight is out of the way, we'll see what happens. "What I do know is that Campbell's fight with Joel Casamayor isn't happening, so there might be an opportunity. What is really important is that Amir focuses on next weekend."
Khan faces former British and WBU super featherweight champion Michael Gomez next Saturday in Birmingham. |
