Terry Venables has rejected the chance to manage Newcastle United on a temporary basis after talks broke down on Thursday afternoon.

The former England boss held talks on Wednesday night before discusses the role further early on Thursday with director of football Dennis Wise and vice-president Tony Jimenez.

The 65-year-old is understood to have been offered a temporary contract on a match-by-match basis, but rejected it as he was keen on a more permanent deal.
