Heath Herring has pinpointed what he believes is a massive weakness in Cheick Kongo's game ahead of their clash at UFC 82, telling the Frenchman he can’t fight on the floor. Kongo is a kickboxing specialist, Herring is a striker who will also look for a ground and pound. And it is on the deck that Herring believes his opponent will be out of his depth. "I don’t think there’s any mystery with Cheick Kongo. He’s a French kickboxer, his strength is to stand up and kick and punch," said Herring. "His weakness is his ground game. He hasn’t really been able to stop a takedown, he’s a fish out of water when he hits the ground. "The smart thing would be to walk across the ring and take him down. I’m sure he’s been working hard on that aspect of his game." Herring has something to prove after his last outing, when he got heckled for standing off his opponent when a win was staring him in the face. The 29-year-old looked set for one of the biggest victories of his career when he floored Antonio Nogueira with a kick to the head, only to stand-off his opponent and allow the clock to run down. He then lost by a points decision, and admits it was a harsh learning curve. "You can always second-guess yourself, you can always look to lay blame, but the fact of the matter is I thought at that point I had knocked him out. "That’s why I stepped back, by the time I did get over to him I could feel him coming back. "I stood up expected the ref to get him up so I could finish the fight, but time ran out in the end. "It was my own fault, it’s not bad communication from my corner, it’s my fault and I can accept 100 percent responsibility for that." |
