Marcus Trescothick has announced his retirement from international cricket. The former England opener played in 76 Tests and 123 one-day games for his country, and said on Saturday that he was retiring now so that the England team could plan their future. "It is in the best interests of all concerned the issue is put to rest so the England team can concentrate on moving forward," he said.England v New Zealand- Live in-play betting with SkyBet Place your first bet and we'll match it up to £20 Last week, Trescothick withdrew from his club's pre-season tour to the United Arab Emirates with a recurrence of his stress-related illness. The 32-year-old boarded the team coach at the County Ground last Friday afternoon bound for Heathrow Airport. However, after reaching London, Trescothick realised he was unable to go through with the trip and returned to Taunton.
Trescothick's illness had already caused him to quit two England tours but Somerset's director of cricket Brian Rose this week assured supporters Trescothick will be fit to play a full part in the coming county season.
Trescothick told the Somerset CCC website: "I have tried on numerous occasions to make it back to the international stage and it has proved a lot more difficult that I expected."
