England have called Andrew Strauss into their squad for Sunday's opening match in the NatWest one-day series against New Zealand at the Riverside.

He is cover for Alistair Cook who sat out Friday's Twenty20 win over the Kiwis with a minor shoulder injury.

New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram has been ruled out of the first one-dayer may miss the rest of the tour.

He sustained a left hamstring injury during the warm-up before the Twenty20 international at Old Trafford.

Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori said Oram is out for "seven to 10 days".

England face a number of selection issues but could be tempted to retain the same XI that hammered New Zealand by nine wickets.

James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann impressed with the ball, while Luke Wright followed a good bowling spell with a free-flowing innings at the top of the order.

Despite their big win, though, captain Paul Collingwood sounded a word of warning ahead of Sunday's match - the first of five one-dayers - saying: "The first thing I will be saying to the boys is 'don't get carried away'.

"The Twenty20 win was an amazing performance, but it means nothing for the one-dayers.

"We know we've got five tough games against them but hopefully we can keep similar sort of standards and put them under pressure like we did on Friday."

The Kiwis are third in the world in the one-day international rankings, but Collingwood says his side are getting better and better.

"We're improving as a one-day side," he claimed. "Our skills are getting a lot better. We're getting more and more experience of when to use those skills but the work ethic over the past year has been great.

"We're very happy with how we are developing, we just want to get results and obviously that breeds confidence and we want to continue in that vein."
