Despite a half century by opener Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh were restricted to 178 as South Africa bowled the hosts out in just 48.2 overs in the first one-day international in Chittagong on Sunday. Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful won the toss and opted to bat, but despite a firm start, the hosts lost opener Zunaed Siddique (6), who was caught at mid-on by Paul Harris from a Charl Langeveldt delivery on the 4th ball of the 8th over. The first wicket fell for 30 runs at the utter frustration of the hosts, who continued to lose wickets without notable score. Langeveldt conceded 32 runs while Morkel and Harris 30 runs each. Spinner Johan Botha got the other wicket at the cost of 43 runs. Iqbal played 98 balls, hitting a six and nine boundaries. Apart from Iqbal, no other player surpassed 15, which was reached by debutants Roqibul Hassan and Dhiman Ghosh and bowler Abdur Razzak. |
