World number 10 Adam Scott led an Australian charge on day two of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship in Texas.

Scott holed four successive birdies from the 10th - his first hole - to storm to the top of the leaderboard with countrymen Mark Hensby and Mathew Goggin one shot behind.

The 27-year-old started the day one shot off Goggin's overnight lead, held jointly with Americans Ryan Moore and Eric Axley, and a three-under-par 67 was enough to see him edge into the lead at the halfway point.

A bogey at 14 stopped the early momentum for Scott but he got it back at the fourth and although another shot went on the eighth as he missed another fairway, the Aussie was pleased with the round.

"It was a fast start but after that was a bit of a battle, a fair bit of scrambling going on," he said. "The conditions were tricky. It was hard to hit fairways and hard to hit greens.

"It would have been nice to get a couple more (birdies) after my start this morning, but I'm pretty happy. I'm still in good shape."

Hensby matched the leader's round of 67 while American Scott McCarron went one better to join the group one shot off the lead at four under, which also includes Goggin, who bounced back from a double-bogey at the 9th to card a 69.

Overnight leader Moore is still in the hunt a shot further back after a level par round that saw five birdies and five dropped shots, while Justin Leonard is also in the same group along with the unheralded Roland Thatcher.

The latter sat alongside Scott at the top with two holes to play, but went long at the par three 17th before dumping his tee-shot to the final hole in the lake.

England's Luke Donald,, who went so close to winning here 12 months ago, shot 68 to move to level par with Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia a shot further back.

All those at +4 or worse will be doing something else this weekend, including Masters champion Trevor Immelman, clearly suffering an Augusta hangover after adding a round of 75 to Friday's 78.
