England's Justin Rose climbed back up to second in the European Ryder Cup standings thanks to a 14th-place finish at the US Tour's PODS Championship. A one-under-par final round saw Rose, 27, finish one over for the tournament, five shots behind winner Sean O'Hair. The American took advantage of a Stewart Cink collapse in Florida to win only his second championship. Overnight leader Cink carded a three-over-par 74 to finish in a six-way tie for second place. John Senden (67), Ryuji Imada (68), George O'Neill (69), Troy Matteson (69) and Billy Mayfair (72) joined Cink in second. O'Hair, 25, started the final day three shots off the lead. But after hitting two birdies, Cink went on to hit a bogey at the third and added three more bogeys before a double-bogey on 16 effectively ended his challenge. A 32-foot putt for birdie on the par-three 16th hole saw O'Hair move to five under.
He followed that up with a par and then a bogey at the last hole, but that was not enough to stop him from adding to his John Deere Classic win in July 2005. |
