Andy Roddick will not compete at the 2008 Olympics as he bids to defend his Washington Open title.

The world number six is desperate to repeat his US Open triumph of 2003 and is already a three-time Washington champion.

He clinched the 2007 crown with victory over fellow American John Isner in the final and will again defend his title from August 11-17 - the same period that the Beijing Games is on.

Roddick said: "My goal every summer is to win the US Open.

"I have won the Legg Mason Tennis Classic three times and feel defending my title in Washington best prepares me for another Grand Slam title."

The 25-year-old is currently in Indian Wells meanwhile for the Pacific Life Open and is on course to meet Andy Murray in the fourth round, with Roger Federer lying in wait in the quarter-finals.
