Renault vow to stay in Formula One @ Monday 2 June 2008, 09:46 AM

Renault will stay in Formula One "for many years" despite their slump, according to chief executive Carlos Ghosn.

The French team haven't had the best of times since Fernando Alonso won back-to-back World Championships in 2005 and 2006.

They finished third in the Constructors' Championship last season and are struggling to find their rhythm this campaign despite the return of Alonso.

Ghosn, though, is confident the team can turn their fortunes around in the latter part of the season.

"We are committed to F1 for many years and we certainly won't leave while we're not winning," Ghosn told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The fruits of our work on the way to recovery will be seen in the second part of the season. It's clear that I'm not happy with the results.

Ghosn also backed Alonso to stay with Renault on the long-term.

"Fernando is very important, he's given motivation and argumentations to the team, and he is a fighter and an honest person. It's up to us to give him a good car. I'm confident he'll stay with us," he added.

"No marriage resists in F1 with a lack of results. Everyone in the team knows we must do more."
