Championship side Queens Park Rangers have signed ex-AS Roma and Italy midfielder Damiano Tommasi in a one-year deal.

"He has played at the highest level for club and country and to have a player of that calibre available can only be good for QPR," manager Iain Dowie said.

The 34-year-old was released by Spanish club Levante at the end of last season.

In a 10-year spell, Tommasi made over 250 appearances for Roma, winning the Scudetto in 2001. He made 25 starts for Italy including all four of their 2002 World Cup matches.
