Pietersen likely to join IPL @ Thursday May 29

Kevin Pietersen's agent has said that the England batsman is likely to play in next year's Indian Premier League.

Adam Wheatley said Pietersen would like to try and take advantage of a short window in the 2009 international calendar and play in the Twenty20 tournament.

England's 2009 tour to the West Indies ends on April 3, meaning there is a month-long period before their next international commitments against Zimbabwe.

Ahead of a summer which sees both the Ashes and the ICC World Twenty20, the England and Wales Cricket Board has said it would prefer centrally-contracted players use the period for rest.

But Wheatley expects players to ask instead to play in the IPL, which is scheduled to run next year from April 10-May 29.

He told The Times: "Ultimately it will be up to (England coach) Peter Moores, but I think the ECB wants to appease the players.

"The 20-over game is not too demanding and in terms of longevity over the season, I don't think there's much danger of them being exhausted by two or three games.

"There is at least a window now, albeit a short one, so I think Kevin will be able to play in the IPL. He might only play one or two games next year, then maybe a bit more the year after."
