American Kenny Perry claimed his second title of the year when Woody Austin bogeyed the final hole to hand him victory at the Buick Open on Sunday.

With Perry in the clubhouse signing for an adventurous final round 66, Austin's title hopes ended with a bogey-bogey finish, missing an 18-foot par putt at the 18th to force a playoff.

It was a crushing defeat for Austin, who had mounted a charge with birdies at 12, 13, 14 and 16 to get into contention before his collapse left him with a four-under 68 and tied for second on 18 under with Bubba Watson.

Watson also had a chance to force a playoff but left a 12-footer inches from the hole.

"I didn't really want to watch to tell you the truth," Perry told reporters. "That's kind of why I went to the range. I wanted to get away.

"I didn't want to sit on the 18th green and worry about anything.

"When Woody missed, I said, well, we dodged one bullet. But I figured Bubba would make birdie; he's got an incredible short game. I still can't believe I won."

Perry also endured a rollercoaster finish at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club with a bogey, eagle, bogey, birdie stretch from the 13th but held on for a one-shot victory with a total of 19-under 269.

It was the second win in four starts for Perry and his second Buick Open title, taking the 47-year-old a step closer to his goal of qualifying for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

"It's just it's at home in Valhalla in my home state and at a golf course that I lost the 1996 PGA Championship to Mark Brooks in a playoff," Perry said.

"I just feel like I needed to go back there, end of my career. I'll be 48 when it comes and just in front of my home folks, just something I wanted to do."

Americans Bob Tway (65), Ken Duke (67) and Australia's Matt Jones finished one shot further adrift at 271.

Dudley Hart began the day with a group two shots off the lead but quickly erased the deficit with birdies on the opening two holes to join overnight Daniel Chopra at the top the leaderboard.

But Hart's title bid came to a shuddering end with four bogeys on his final six holes.

Chopra started the day with a two-shot cushion but the blonde Swede's title hopes ended when he carded four bogeys in his first seven holes.
