Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Trufant has agreed a new six-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

The deal is reportedly worth $50.2 million, with $20m guaranteed, although terms were not officially disclosed.

Trufant, 27, has spent his entire five-year professional career with the Seahawks after being drafted out of Washington State University with the 11th overall pick of the 2003 draft.

The Seahawks had applied the franchise tag on Trufant in February to prevent him becoming a free agent but both sides were keen to conclude a long-term arrangement.

It is a further boost for Seattle's defence - ranked 15th in the NFL last season - after star linebacker Lofa Tatupu inked a six-year, $42 million extension last week.
