The New York Jets continued their off-season rebuilding by signing three-time Pro Bowler Bubba Franks on a one-year deal.

30-year-old tight end Franks joins after eight season with the Green Bay Packers, and he is the latest of New York's new recruits, along with Miami Dolphins running back Jesse Chatman.

Franks, who will likely be used as a back-up to Chris Baker, made the Pro Bowl from 2001-03 but injuries in recent years have seen him struggle and he has been back-up to Donald Lee in Green Bay.

The Jets have also brought in former Dolphins running back Jesse Chatman - who has also penned a one-year deal.

Chatman started his career in San Diego before moving to Miami in 2005, although he was soon traded to New Orleans in the same season.

Things did not work out with the Saints either and after they released him Chatman sat out the 2006 season but revived his career when returning to Miami last season.

Chatman caught 27 passes for 161 yards and ran for a career-high 515 yards and a touchdown last season as he took over from the injured Ronnie Brown as starting running back.

"Jesse chose New York because he has a past relationship with a couple of the coaches and feels that it's a great opportunity," agent Brett Tessler said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

He joins several new Jets additions including guard Alan Faneca, offensive tackle Damien Woody and fullback Tony Richardson.
