Controversial cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones is on the move after the Tennessee Titans agreed to trade him to the Dallas Cowboys. The 24-year-old missed the whole of last season after being suspended for off-the-field conduct detrimental to the league. The first defensive player drafted in 2005, Jones has been arrested six times since joining the NFL and was implicated in a triple shooting at a Las Vegas strip club during the 2007 NBA All-Star weekend. Jones was charged in June last year with two counts of felony coercion and in December he pleaded no contest in Las Vegas to conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct. |
During his time away from the NFL, Jones turned to professional wrestling and enjoyed a considerable payday from a short spell with the Nashville based TNA promotion, although his NFL employers insisted on clauses which ensured he wouldn't be involved physically.
Despite his baggage, Cowboys officials believe they can keep him on the straight and narrow and are keen to bring him to Dallas.
Tennessee gave Jones permission to talk to other teams weeks ago, but until now the Cowboys could not agree a compensation package, until now.
"What I can confirm is that we have agreed in principle with the Tennessee Titans on a trade that will bring Adam Jones to the Cowboys," Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said.
It is reported that the Cowboys will give up a fourth round pick at the weekend's draft, but that would head back to Dallas is Jones does not play this season.
Jones has not played since December 2006 and will have to complete a physical before his long-awaited move finally goes through.
The Cowboys are willing to take a chance on Jones for his skills at corner back and as an explosive kick returner, two areas where they have struggled.
