Today's race meeting at Newcastle will go ahead on Wednesday after course officials decided against the precautionary inspection that was planned for 8am.

"It's purely precautionary and we're pretty optimistic of being all right," said clerk of the course James Armstrong.

"We have a mix of temperatures forecast overnight between zero and minus two.

"We had an overnight frost last night of minus two and minus three but we were raceable by 10am."
