Woods won the US Open despite playing with serious leg injuries which have forced him to miss the rest of the season.

"During the last part of the fourth day, there was only one guy with unbelievable concentration and confidence. Only Tiger could win playing with that condition," said Nadal.

And the world number two said he sympathised with 14-time major winner Woods, who needs a fourth operation on his damaged left knee.

"I know how tough it is playing having pain. It is very difficult to concentrate when, in my case, you are running or playing the ball and feel pain," said the Spaniard.

Nadal faces qualifier Andreas Beck in his first-round match at Wimbledon.
