Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti insists he is "not at all disappointed" by Frank Lampard's decision to stay at Chelsea because he understands the player's reasons.

Last month Lampard chose to remain at Stamford Bridge despite only having a year left on his current deal.

And Moratti believes that his close family ties were the only factor keeping him at the west London club.

"Was I disappointed by his attitude? Not at all, I found him to be very serious and focused," said Moratti.

"He wanted to leave Chelsea, I am certain of that, although it created a lot of anxiety for him and in fact he stayed because of family matters."

He added: "He stayed for his father, who he is extremely close to, and for his whole environment. Therefore he was unable to create that split that they expected and we were hoping for.

"(Inter coach Jose) Mourinho did hope for this move but we knew it was going to be difficult."
