Last updated: Monday, March 24 2008, 10:21am Monday's meetings at Yarmouth and Fakenham have been abandoned after snow during the night and throughout the morning. After a first check at 7.30am further snow fell, leaving Yarmouth's clerk of the course Charlie Moore with no other option but to call the fixture off. "Unfortunately, we've had to abandon as the situation has got worse," said Moore. "We've had about three flurries of snow since earlier. The tarmac here had been clearing but it was then covered with snow straight away again. "Also, even if I wait, the risk now is huge that we'll also have waterlogging on the track, so it's unfortunately an inevitability." Fakenham were forced to call a third inspection at 10am to decide whether they could race or not. Clerk of the course David Hunter took an initial look at 7am and again at 9am following a wintry night, but a further inspection was required. "Unfortunately we won't be racing as we've had to abandon due to the snow," he said, finally.
"It's just not melting sufficiently quickly for us to be completely confident that we'd be able to race at two o'clock this afternoon." They were due to check the conditions at Redcar at 7.30am but decided there was no need to bother. The going is described as good to soft. A spokesman for the track said: "We're fine here this morning and racing goes ahead." Huntingdon had been scheduled to hold an 8am check after temperatures were predicted to drop as low as minus three degrees overnight.
However, after a much milder night, Clerk of the course Fiona Needham was able to make a positive decision ahead of time. |
