French star Amelie Mauresmo's decline in fortunes continued with a 6-3 6-4 defeat by Spain's Carla Suarez-Navarro in the second round of the French Open on Thursday.

The former Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, 28, recently talked of retirement and fell desperately short against the qualifier.

Mauresmo has never been past the quarter-finals of her home Grand Slam.
