Manchester City have confirmed the club will not be pursuing the signing of Brazilian striker Ronaldo.

The three-time world player of the year, currently recovering from a serious knee injury, is a free agent after leaving AC Milan in the summer.

The 31-year-old had earlier said he believed he can help make City "one of the best clubs in the world".

"I like the project that City presented me," said the forward. "It's the best offer I've received and it will be interesting to play with Robinho."

However, City have revealed that there are no plans to forward after the club explored a deal for the former Real Madrid star.

"We had shown a past interest in bringing the player to the football club in the right circumstances and spoke to him and his representatives," admitted a club spokesperson.

"However, we have chosen not to pursue the matter."

Ronaldo had been keen to form a partnership with £32.5million forward Robinho.

"Me and him, together, we can score more than 50 goals," he stated.

It is understood that City met with Ronaldo and carried out medical checks on the forward before opting against a deal.
