Amir Khan's former trainer Oliver Harrison says he is mystified by the Commonwealth lightweight champion's decision to dump him on the brink of a world title shot. Harrison, who has been in Khan's corner for all 17 of his professional contests to date, said he had not spoken to the fighter since his last win over Martin Kristjansen at the Bolton Arena on April 5. Khan is set to announce on Thursday that he has teamed up with a leading American trainer - possibly former world champion Buddy McGirt. But Harrison told the Bolton Evening News: "We were just around the corner from a world title, which we would have won. |
"I thought we got on so well on a personal basis as well as professional, but I haven't heard anything from Amir since the Bolton fight. I have just read what has happened in the papers.
"It just doesn't add up. I don't understand why he has gone to an American trainer.
"I trained him for all 17 of his fights, which he won with 13 knockdowns.
"He improved with every fight."
Khan will be without Harrison in his corner for the first time when he fights at the Birmingham Indoor Arena on June 21.
It is last fight of Khan's deal with ITV before he is expected to switch to Setanta Sports.
