Colin Montgomerie has pulled out of this coming week's Mercedes-Benz Championship in Cologne with a shoulder injury.

After missing out on a Ryder Cup place, Montgomerie saw two specialists and had a scan after the problem developed.

The 45-year-old Scot's next tournament will now likely be the Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry on September 25-28, the week after Europe try for a fourth successive victory against the Americans in Kentucky.
