Harbhajan Singh and Mahendra Dhoni have both been included in India's squad for the first two Tests against South Africa despite injuries. Spinner Harbhajan picked up a hamstring injury in Australia while wicket-keeper Dhoni has a sprained finger. They must prove their fitness before the first Test in Chennai on March 26. Fast bowler Ishant Sharma is ruled out because of a toe injury while Gautam Gambhir misses out despite his superb form in the one-day series down under. Gambhir was India's top scorer as they upset Australia 2-0 in the final series earlier this month. The 26-year-old left-hander has played 14 Tests since making his debut four years ago and was hopeful of a recall after amassing 440 runs in 10 innings in the Commonwealth Bank Series in Australia, at an average of 55.00.
India squad: Wasim Jaffer, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, Vangipurappu Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Irfan Pathan, Anil Kumble (captain), Harbhajan Singh, Murali Kartik, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Rudra Pratap Singh. |
