Chile's Fernando Gonzalez powered into the quarter-finals of the French Open with a comprehensive win over American Robby Ginepri on Court Suzanne Lenglen on Monday.

The 24th seed edged a tight first set before going on to dominate and run out a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 6-1 winner.

Gonzalez now has a 16-0 record on clay in 2008, although he withdrew in Rome because of a hamstring injury.

He will take on world number one Roger Federer or France's Julien Benneteau in the last eight.
