FA informed of unusual betting in Accrington v Bury game @ Saturday 3 May 2008, 06:38 PM

The Football Association have been alerted of unusual betting patterns prior to Saturday's League Two game between Accrington Stanley and Bury.

FA officials were contacted after aBury's price tumbled after unusually high amounts of money were placed with several bookmakers and betting exchanges.

Betfair saw over £281,000 worth of bets matched on the game - more than ten times the amount matched on the League Two game between Rochdale and Shrewsbury.

Mark Irvine, managing director of JAXX, said on Saturday: "We saw a weight of money for Bury and from an opening price of 2/1, we had to cut their price throughout Friday to 10/11.

"The amount of money was unprecedented and unusual. We took the decision to suspend betting on the game on Friday evening."

The visitors had been generally available at 2/1 on Friday morning but prior to kick-off in a game in which Bury won 2-0, the best price available was 5/6.

Irvine added: "For what amounts to a nothing end-of-season game, there was an unusual interest in it.

"Fortunately, we have not been hit as hard as some."
