Brett Emerton has pledged his future to Blackburn and put pen to paper on a new four-year contract.

The deal is set to keep the 29-year-old Australian at Ewood Park until 2012.

Chairman John Williams told the club's official website: "This is great news for the club. He's a very willing member of the squad and a real club man.

"Brett has been an excellent servant over the last five years and we are delighted to have agreed a deal that keeps him here for another four years."

Emerton began his Blackburn career on the right side of midfield but has demonstrated his versatility by playing in a number of other positions.

He has also operated at right-back and centre midfield, making more than 200 appearances for Rovers since joining the club in a £2.2million deal from Feyenoord in 2003.

Emerton has also won 66 caps for Australia, making his international debut in February 1998 and scoring 14 goals.
