Britain's Simon Dyson had to settle for third place at the Malaysian Open after leading for most of the final round. India's Arjun Atwal took the title, beating defending champion Peter Hedblom at the second play-off hole. Dyson finished tied with Australia's Kane Webber, one shot behind Atwal and Sweden's Hedblom on 18 under. The Englishman, 30, had led until play at the Kota Permai course was held up by a two-hour weather break, but he bogeyed the 16th after play resumed. "The break killed me. I could have won if we carried on. I just did not hit a bad shot coming in," said Dyson. Atwal, the 2003 champion, clinched victory when he knocked in his par putt on the second play-off hole, while Hedblom three-putted. David Lynn finished joint sixth on 15 under, while Darren Clarke, who was in contention until he dropped three shots on the last four holes, finished a further shot behind. Nick Dougherty, who carded a 62 in the opening round, hit a final round 73 to finish on 11 under.
