Nikolay Davydenko produced an accomplished performance to lift the Sony Ericsson Open title in Miami on Sunday afternoon. Davydenko's pace and power from the baseline was simply too much for Rafael Nadal as he recorded a 6-4 6-2 victory in an hour and 22 minutes - his first-ever win over the world No.2. The number four seed had got off to an ideal start after he broke Nadal in the third game, however he failed to consolidate his advantage as the Spaniard immediately hit back to level. However having just held on to his serve in the sixth game, Davydenko broke Nadal in the seventh and then made sure of the advantage in emphatic fashion. Nadal held on to his own serve and saw off one set point in the next game, but it was a brief respite as the Russian moved 1-0 with his next shot. Things got worse for the Spaniard as Davydenko broke him at the start of the second set, with his serve badly letting him down. The writing was on the wall for Nadal as he was broken again in the fifth game, with Davydenko turning the screw by moving 5-1 ahead. Nadal held his serve in the next game but he wasonly delaying the inevitable as Davydenko sealed victory.
