Czech's to beat co-hosts Swiss in Euro 2008 opener @ Saturday June 7

The Czech Republic can open the Euro 2008 Championship with a win against co-hosts Switzerland in Basle on Saturday. They are a stand-out 24/13 with Pinnacle while most bookmakers are offering around the 6-4 mark.

The Czechs have a decent record in recent Euro tournaments, having reached the final in 1996 and the last four in 2004. The retirement of Pavel Nedved and Vladimir Smicer, plus an injury to Tomas Rosicky may make them weaker on paper, however they still beat Germany 3-0 in Munich during the qualifying phase.

Petr Cech they have an outstanding keeper, and experienced strikers in Milan Baros and targetman Jan Koller.

The Swiss rely heavily on Tranquillo Barnetta, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, who gave the squad a fright when suffering an ankle injury in training two weeks ago. However, he is back in full training now.

Philippe Senderos, of Arsenal, takes his place in the centre of defence and up front Alex Frei has scored 35 times in 59 matches for Switzerland.

Opening games can be nervy affairs, and home expectations are not certain to help a young Swiss side, who are best at 15-8 with Betterbet.

The draw is best priced 21/10 with VC Bet.
