Miguel Cotto says he is not bothered about facing pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather - just yet. The undefeated Peurto Rican, who defends his WBA welterweight title, this weekend, is being touted in some quarters as the man to dethrone 'Money' Mayweather. The fact that Cotto boxes at 147lbs makes the fight a real possibility, but the man himself scoffed at the suggestion he should be chasing after a showdown with a man he does not rate as the best there is. "I'm in no hurry," he said. "If I have to be patient to face the guy the people and the press call the best fighter in the world, I can wait. "He runs from the really good boxers and chases other things. I don't know how people in boxing support him as being first in the pound-for-pound rankings." Cotto will be making the fourth defence of his WBA strap against Alfonso Gomez in Atlantic City. And the challenger will be looking to restore some credibility to The Contender TV series following Peter Manfredo Jr's lame showing against Joe Calzaghe, when he lasted just three rounds. Cotto knows the proud Mexican, who retired Arturo Gatti and saw off the durable Ben Tackie, will be a different proposition. "I know Gomez will come to fight," he said. "That will be good for me and all the people who come to see the fight. "I have never underestimated any opponent and I will be ready for anything he brings into the ring. "Of course, I know there is a lot of talent in the division. And I know I need to have everything prepared for whoever I fight. "I'm always training hard and I always bring my best every night into the ring." Joe Calzaghe v Bernard Hopkins airs live on Setanta Sports 1 and you can subscribe for just £5 per month for the next three months (£9.99 thereafter) quoting offer code 1904 before Friday 11th April at midnight.
