Scotland manager George Burley says he has been disappointed by the criticism which followed the defeat to Macedonia.
And looking ahead to Wednesday's clash with Iceland, Burley believes his side can get their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track.
"We've played one game, a difficult game in Macedonia," said Burley.
"Would other countries who have lost the first game away from home be talking the same way as the Scottish Press? I don't know."
Saturday's defeat in Skopje was Scotland's sixth successive match without a win, leaving Burley still looking for his first win after four games in charge.
But the former Ipswich manager insists his squad are in the right frame of mind ahead of the clash in Reykjavik.
"What we have to do is concentrate on trying to get enough wins to qualify for the World Cup and we are totally focused," added Burley.
"We are not despondent. No-one is unhappy and everyone is focused on the game."
Iceland opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw in Norway but coach Olafur Johannesson says his side would require "a miracle" to progress from Group Nine.
"I think he is taking pressure off himself," said Burley.
"I'm sure, deep down with the start they had on Saturday, they'll be thinking maybe they can finish in that position. They're a good side, with talented players.
"It's up to us to prove that we are a better side. We have to show we are better than them and try to get the right result."
Meanwhile, Gary Caldwell has told Burley's critics that they should be embarrassed by their reaction to Scotland's defeat against Macedonia.
The Scotland defender said it was too early to be pressing the panic button and is convinced the players can get their campaign on track with victory in Iceland.
"To judge it over one game is incredible, to say we are out this early," Caldwell said.
"We know we have got a team that is capable of winning games and qualifying.
"The reaction is a bit embarrassing to be honest - that people can judge people so early and jump on it as much as they do.
"They need to take a look at themselves really and get behind the country because we are all trying to do something that has not been done for a long time.
"A little bit of help would come in handy."
