X Factor viewers were outraged after 24-year-old Waissel was saved by Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh after Cole had refused to nominate either of her acts for elimination.
Over 800 complaints to OFCOM and ITV have been made after Katie, who had fluffed her lines when singing and crumbled to the floor after saying "sod it" during her performance, survived elimination for the second time.
The controversial singer has already been made favourite to finally get the boot this weekend and judging by public opinion, there are few fans of the show that actually want her to stay in the competition.
Cheryl had said on Sunday night's show: "I'm not sending either of them home, I'm refusing point blank - ask the other two and then I'll take it to deadlock."
But Dermot O'Leary then took matters out of the unfortunate mentor's hands by declaring "we're going to do a majority decision."
Past X Factor protocol dictates that Cheryl should have been the last to vote in such a case where she was mentoring both acts up for eviction, but we'll now never know if she would have forced a deadlock situation or which singer would have lost out on a public vote.
There has been speculation since Sunday's show that Katie has been purposely kept in the competition and some fans writing on social networking sites and message boards believe the controversial singer would have finished bottom of the public vote.
Fans have given a huge thumbs down to the way the latest results show panned out, with around 70 per cent of those viewing the video replay on the official website declaring they disliked the outcome.
