Venus favourite to beat her sister and win sixth Wimbledon championship

Venus and Serena Williams will contest their fourth Wimbledon singles final against each other after semi-finals wins on Thursday.

After Serena had booked her place in the final with a three-set win over Elena Dementieva, winning 6-7 7-5 8-6 in a thrilling semi-final which saw both produce a great display of hard-hitting baseline tennis.

Following that, Venus demolished world number one Dinara Safina of Russia 6-1 6-0.

After breezing past Safina, Venus said: "This is my eighth final and a dream come true to be here again and have the opportunity to hold the plate up.

"She's (Safina) so talented and she's played so consistently in the last year and I went out there and was able to really stay focussed. I have so much experience on this court it helps a lot."

Venus' appearance in the final will be her eighth at SW19 and bookies make her the odds-on favourite to beat her sister and win her sixth Wimbledon title.

Ladbrokes are 4/6 on Venus winning Saturday's showdown, with Serena 11/10 to win.

An all-Williams final had been as short as 4/9 prior to Thursday's semi-finals.
