Venus Williams impressed on the opening day of the French Open in hot conditions at Roland Garros
The American beat Patty Schnyder of Switzerland 6-3 6-3, playing some good tennis and never looking like being in any danger.

Williams' win came after defending champion Svetlana Kuznetsova got the 2010 French Open underway on Philippe Chatrier Court, with the Russian going 3-0 down in the opening set against Sorana Cirstea of Romania.
But the number six seed soon settled and went on to win 6-3 6-1.
