Trainer Mouse Morris believes he has former Cheltenham Gold Cup hero War of Attrition spot on for the World Hurdle at the festival later this month where he will face the odds-on favourite Big Buck’s.
War Of Attrition won the Cheltenham Gold Cup back in 2006 and now at the grand age of eleven will try for his second piece of festival glory this time over the smaller obstacles.
The veteran has had a resurgent season so far over timber having won his last two starts, the latest a Grade 2 success at Navan when beating the useful Mourad but he will doubt face his stiffest task to date when tackling last year’s World Hurdle winner Big Buck’s at the festival in two weeks.
Despite being as big as 33-1 with Paddy Power for the World Hurdle, his trainer believes he goes there at the top of his game and fit enough to do himself justice.
Morris said: "He's bang on course all being well and went away to Thurles at the weekend,"
"It was just a day away to keep him interested but he is pretty much fully cooked now and we'll just keep him ticking over until Cheltenham.
"He's in good order and is just as well as he was before Navan the last day, so we'll see what happens.
"The ground isn't as important as it was a couple of years ago, when he really needed decent ground.
"He's getting older and is a bit slower nowadays and if we get just genuine good to soft ground that will be grand. If it is softer though, I won't be as worried as I would have been a couple of years ago," added Morris
Big Buck’s is the 8-13 favourite with Paddy Power, who are offering new customers a £50 free bet on the Cheltenham Festival later this month when they sign up.
