PokerStars trumped rival online network giant Full Tilt Poker in a tournament world record attempt.

To celebrate its 5 year inception, Full Tilt Poker presented the $5 buy-in ‘Record Breaker’, which attracted 50,000 players, and saw $250,000 added. Winner of the marathon was ‘breo40’, who picked up a cool $45,000 for over 10 hours graft. A number of Full Tilt red pros entered the event, with Paul Wasicka coming a very respectable 13th.

If Full Tilt was the small blind of poker tournaments, PokerStars was the big blind. 65,000 players took to the virtual felt, forking out $1 to compete for a $13,000 first prize. PokerStars goes straight into the Guinness World Record books, as it smashed the previous figure of 35,000 players.

The world record attempts saw a notable increase in traffic for other events, with ‘danilov153’ taking down the PokerStars Sunday Million for $240,000, after 8,047 hopefuls signed up.
