Hellmuth to make grand WSOP Main Event entrance

With every World Series Main Event comes a flamboyant Phil Hellmuth entrance ceremony, and this year will be no different, with the tournament set to kick-off in a few days time.

On his twitter page, Hellmuth describes how he’ll show up as ‘Caesar: with 100 models, 11 muses w body paint, a chariot w 2 horses’. So why the jazzy, grand entry? As a world record holder with 11 WSOP bracelets, Hellmuth likes to think of himself as a bit special. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of his 1989 Main Event triumph.

Past brazen entries have included the crashing of an Ultimate Bet race car outside Harrah’s car park, and a rather tactless parade of Hellmuth as an Ultimate Bet army general, flanked by eleven soldiers (one for each bracelet). The ceremony drew criticism from parents of Iraq war victims. Phil’s entry antics aren’t confined to American soil either – Hellmuth strode into the 2008 WSOP Europe accompanied by eleven ‘police women’, in another promotional stunt.

Meanwhile Blue Square are offering a range of unique WSOP Main Event bets. Selecting the overall winner really is a lotto, but in some of the other categories, there seem be a few worthwhile punts. For Top UK and Ireland player, Andy Black looks like the best price at 25/1. The laid back Full Tilt pro has a good tournament pedigree – he is a former Main Event final tableist, and has made several cashes in the 2009 WSOP. For top past champion, Huck Seed could be the shrewd option at 12-1. The likes of Phil Hellmuth and Peter Eastgate have endured rotten luck in this year’s World Series, where as Seed comes off the back of a $50K H.O.R.S.E final table appearance. For top American player, you could plump for Tom Dwan at 25-1. His relentless aggression in the early levels could see him accumulate a sizeable stack.
