Watson comes agonisingly close at Turnberry as Cink wins first major

Stewart Cink is a best priced 50/1 (bet365) to win next month's USPGA Championship after he won the Open Championship at Turnberry on Sunday.

Cink beat Tom Watson in a four-hole play-off, with the 59-year-old having earlier missed a putt on the 18th green to claim what would have been a famous victory.

Watson, matched on Betfair at 1000/1 on Thursday, was seeking a sixth Open title and was 1/5 with Skybet when teeing off on the 18th.

But although his tee shot found the fairway, Watson's approach shot rolled off the back of the green.

He then three putted to give Cink, who was in the clubhouse on two under par for the tournament, the chance to win in a play-off.

Cink started the play-off as the 8/11 favourite but his job was made easy as an exhausted Watson's game crumbled, allowing the 36-year-old to win his first golfing major.

World number one Tiger Woods, who missed the cut at Turnberry on Friday, is the early favourite for the final major of the calendar year, best priced 5/2 with bet365.

Stan James are 16/1 on Phil Mickelson winning, with Lee Westwood, who for most of Sunday was favourite to win the Open Championship, 28/1 with bet365.
