Spanish champions Real Madrid are set to end their interest in Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric as the London club refuse to budge on their £40million valuation of the player.
It is understood that Madrid’s latest offer of £30.4million for the Croatian has been refused and that Jose Mourinho could now opt to turn his attentions to other targets, including Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder. Paddy Power offer appealing odds of 11/4 that the Dutchman leaves the San Siro this summer.
Despite this morning’s revelations BetVictor continue to offer odds of 1/5 that Modric will be a Madrid player next season, with a move to Paris Saint-Germain quoted at 5/1 and a switch to Manchester United at 8/1.
Whether Modric has a future at Spurs is unclear after the Croatian refused to board the squad’s plane to Los Angeles last month and was then forced to train with the reserves by new manager Andre Villas-Boas, despite the Croatian issuing a subsequent apology. Stan James quote odds of 33/1 on Tottenham winning the Premier League, and 2/1 that they achieve a top four finish this season.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, will continue their pre-season preparations, without Modric, when they take on LA Galaxy in the early hours of Monday morning. The Spanish champions are overwhelming 1/4 favourites for the win and you can watch all the action live online with Bet365.
Mourinho’s men are the 4/5 favourites with BetVictor to retain their La Liga title next season, but are behind arch-rivals Barcelona in the Champions League betting, where Los Blancos can be backed at odds of 4/1.
