Pardew was given the boot despite Southampton winning 4-0 at Bristol Rovers at the weekend, with the Saints' owners clearly deciding that a change was needed before that game.

With Pardew and his coaching staff given the boot, Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale is 9/2 favourite at Sky Bet (£5 no deposit free bet), while Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is also an early contender at 6/1.

Former Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has been installed as an 8/1 chance to return to club manager with the Saints, while caretaker manager Dean Wilkins and former Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate are both available at 8/1 at time of writing.

Alan Curbishley has already been linked with the job and can be backed at 14/1, while former Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell is a 16/1 chance.

Former Bolton boss Gary Megson is 20/1 and Iain Dowie 25/1.
