Manchester City v Bolton Wanderers betting preview

Dave Higgins - 9 Feb 2010

You can back another 3-3 draw at odds of 100/1

Manchester City are strong favourites (4/9 William Hill) to win tonight's televised encounter, although they were heavily backed to win at the Reebok Stadium in December and failed to oblige.

Indeed, Bolton were the better team in that match, having taken the lead on three separate occasions and they are a lumpy 8/1 (Sky Bet) to hold on to a lead until the final whistle and become the first visiting team to win at Eastlands this season.

It will be a tall order for Owen Coyle's team, especially with Gary Cahill having been ruled out for the rest of the season. The central defender had an outside chance of making the England World Cup squad, although it falls to Andy O'Brien to help keep Wanderers in the top flight.

Naturally, another draw would be a good result for the Trotters, who will be looking to keep things tight at the City of Manchester Stadium. Stan James offer 10/3 that the match ends all square, something which would dent City's hopes of a top four finish.

Indeed, they were outfought at the KC Stadium on Saturday, with Hull running out 2-1 victors and will be under pressure to land a maximum haul in this north-west derby. They can boast lots of quality firepower in Craig Bellamy (6/1 Stan James), Emmanuel Adebayor (4/1 Ladbrokes) and Carlos Tevez (4/1 Blue Square), with the latter having scored twice against Bolton when the teams met in December.

If you think that both teams will go on the offensive to conjure another 3-3 draw, then Sporting Bet offer 100/1 about this happening and it's worth noting that six goals were scored when Bolton recently lost 4-2 at Arsenal.

However, Ivan Klasnic is still injured for Bolton, while Kevin Davies (11/1 Paddy Power) has featured a good deal less on the scoresheet that in previous seasons. Saturday's goalless draw with Fulham illustrated that while Owen Coyle has been brought in to create entertaining football, the short-term goal is well-drilled defending that will keep them in the Premier League. You can back Under 2.5 Goals at odds of 13/8 (bet365), with Paddy Power offering 7/5 that City win to nil.
