Liverpool had taken the lead at Anfield, with the returning Dirk Kuyt opening the scoring after just five minutes.

Darren Bent levelled the scores in the first half from the penalty spot before scoring his and the Black Cats' second goal of the game early in the second half.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard salvaged a point, but at the final whistle, fans ensured their frustrations against owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett were heard loud and clear.
