Chelsea were linked with the Spain striker last summer, with some reports claiming the Anfield club had rejected a £25million bid prior to Torres pledging his future to the Merseysiders.
But after a shocking start to the season that has left Liverpool in the relegation zone, Torres is again being linked with a move, despite the club this month being taken over by new owners.
The Times this week claimed Chelsea are ready to make a move for Torres, who has scored just one goal this season, and Victor Chandler (£50 free bet) make the Liverpool striker 10/3 to have left the club by the end of the January transfer window.
The battle to sign Wayne Rooney is now underway following Sir Alex Ferguson admitting on Tuesday that the England international wants to leave and the striker is also a target for Chelsea, although it would be highly unlikely that the Blues would look to move for both Rooney and Torres.
On Wednesday morning, Rooney was a best price 8/1 (also Victor Chandler) to join Chelsea and 13/2 (Paddy Power - £100 free bet) to have joined the Stamford Bridge club by the end of August 2011.
