Bordeaux v Juventus betting preview

Oddspreview staff

Recommended bets ahead of Juventus' trip to France tonight where the Italians are need of a win against Bordeaux in the Champions League...

The French champions return to European action after an historic weekend. Bordeaux's Ligue 1 defeat to Valenciennes was their first at home for two years, a spell of 39 matches going back to October 2007. It might not have been unexpected - after all, Valenciennes are France's highest scorers and have the best away record, while Bordeaux were missing playmaker Yoann Gourcuff with a groin strain - but the hosts won't want another defeat this week, especially as it would make it three in a row.

But without Gourcuff, they are a different side. And the problem for coach Laurent Blanc is that the midfielder is not the only absentee for the visit of Juventus. Jussiê, Franck Jurietti and Henrique have already been ruled out while Marouane Chamakh is rated as doubtful. His absence up front would be a huge loss to a side that struggled with their 4-3-3 formation against Valenciennes.

Not that their opponents come into the game with a clean bill of health: David Trezeguet won't return to France as he is out, as are Claudio Marchisio and Vicenzo Iaquinta. Amauri will come in for Trezeguet while coach Ciro Ferrara is wedded to his 4-2-3-1 system that brings the best out of Diego in the playmaker role. With no Gourcuff for the hosts, Diego will be the man to stop and if Alou Diarra puts in the kind of lacklustre display he gave for France against Ireland last week, the Brazilian might feel his luck is in.

Blanc's pre-season target was for Bordeaux to progress to the knock-out round and despite a tricky draw they have already achieved that. But he won't now want them to relinquish top spot in the group: with a trip to Haifa to come, a draw should be enough for Bordeaux to stay top. The price for a draw is 3.25 with Betfair while 1-1 Correct Score is 6.4.

Juventus, on the other hand, do need a win to be sure of reaching the next round. They play Bayern at home on Matchday Six and would want to have secured their place before then. Although Bordeaux are weakened, Juventus 2.66 may just fall short of a winning performance.

Recommended bets:
Bordeaux and Juventus to draw @ 3.25 with Betfair
Correct Score 1-1 @ 6.4
