Aston Villa v Manchester United betting preview

Martin O'Neill's team 3/1 to complete the double over champions

Liverpool managed it last season, but there are very few teams that manage to beat the Red Devils once during a season, let alone twice.

Aston Villa remain the only team to have won at Old Trafford this term and the Midlands side are 3/1 (Paddy Power) to follow up December's surprise 1-0 victory with another three point haul against the champions on Wednesday night.

Gabby Agbonlahor was the match winner two months ago and his pace is sure to unsettle the second-choice central defence pairing of Jonny Evans and Wes Brown, with Coral going 8/1 that he breaks the deadlock.

As always, the bookies are wary of laying Manchester United at too big a price, although bet365 and Ladbrokes offer a best price 10/11 that Sir Alex Ferguson's team manage a fifth consecutive league win and keep the pressure firmly on Chelsea.

The champions have won seven times on the road this term, although they might have difficulty breaking down a spirited Villans defence and it's easy to see this match being a low-scoring affair. Under 2.5 Goals is available at a tempting 17/20 (bet365) and Villa did recently play out a goalless draw with Arsenal in front of their own fans.

Even so, it's not every week that Richard Dunne and James Collins have to contend with a striker like Wayne Rooney, with the England striker scoring an incredible twenty-four goals this season. The 24-year-old has managed eight goals in the past six games and he's an eye-catching 9/2 with Boylesports to set United on their way to a potential victory. The other player standing out for the champions is Nani (9/1 Blue Square), who is starting to blossom in a red shirt.

While Manchester United have dished out a few tonkings in recent weeks, the quality of the opposition has been questionable and they might have to be patient before finding the breakthrough in this match.

You can get 4/1 (Sky Bet) that the match is level before the visitors get ahead before the final whistle, while the title contenders are 6/1 (Sporting Bet) to follow in the footsteps of Liverpool and come away from Villa Park with a 1-0 victory.
