Eastenders veteran Barbara Windsor is also on her way out of the show
As speculation continues to mount over who killed Archie Mitchell in Eastenders, William Hill punters have been lumping on Peggy Mitchell to be unmasked as the murderer on Friday night.
Actor Larry Lamb, who played the former Queen Vic landlord, has predicted his slayer will turn out to be female, and Barbara Windsor's decision to quit the show could be another key clue.
"I sort of reckon on a female," Larry told BBC Breakfast. "I'd put money on a female but I have to say, I've got no idea which."
Sean Slater is the overall favourite for this market, but Peggy is currently one of the leading ladies in the betting, especially with William Hill who are offering all readers a £25 free bet on this market.
“We’ve been absolutely knocked over (pardon the pun) by the interest in the ‘Who Killed Archie?’ market and we’ve taken bets for a vast range of suspects," said spokesman Jon Wilde.
“However, one candidate is bang to rights judging by the amount of money that’s flooded in for her and that’s Peggy Mitchell.
"She opened up at 16/1, has been backed in to 6s and if it turns out she’s the killer, we wouldn’t even be able to afford a packet of pork scratchings in the Queen Vic.”
The same firm have also seen solid support for Shirley Carter to be unveiled as the killer during Friday night's live episode and have cut her odds to 6/1 as well.
